Important Note

MaineGeneral Medical Center (MGMC) performs alcohol testing for medical purposes. MGMC will draw specimens for legal purposes at the request of a law enforcement officer. The enforcement officer must provide the draw kit, and testing will be performed by the state (HETL).

Specimen Requirements

 Hemolyzed specimens are not acceptable.

 

Draw blood in a green-top, litium heparin or a gold-top, serum separator tube. Label specimen with patient’s name (first and last), date of birth, date and time of draw and the phlebotomist’s initials.

 

Specimen stability:   2 days at room temperature

                                     14 days at 2-8°C

                                       ≥-20°C for longer storage

Minimum volume:   1 mL
