Useful For

Antimitochondrial M2 (AMA-M2) antibody testing is highly specific and useful for diagnosing Primary Biliary Cholangitis (PBC), a chronic autoimmune liver disease formerly known as primary biliary cirrhosis. It helps confirm PBC in patients with high liver enzymes, identifies the disease in symptomatic patients (fatigue/itching), and can suggest risk in asymptomatic individuals.

Specimen Requirements

Collection Container/Tube:

Preferred: Serum

Acceptable: Red top

Submission Container/Tube: Plastic vial

Specimen Volume: 2mL preferred, 1.5mL minimum 

Collection Instructions: Centrifuge within 2 hours and aliquot serum into a plastic vial.
