Specimen Requirements

Draw a full, green-top (lithium heparin) tube, green-top (sodium heparin) tube, or a heparinized syringe. Tube or syringe must be completely filled and should contain no air bubbles. (Clotted specimen or syringe with needle is not acceptable.) Immediately place specimen in crushed ice after drawing and forward promptly to laboratory. Do not expose specimen to air.

Note:  Label specimen with patient’s name (first and last), date of birth, date and time of draw, and phlebotomist’s initials.
