Methodology
Includes ABO group and Rh type and direct coombs test.
Specimen Requirements
Collect cord blood in a pink top cord blood tube (black or blue top tubes are also acceptable.) Forward promptly to the laboratory for testing and storage.
Improperly labeled specimens are not acceptable.
Note: The specimen must have 2 patient labels, one for the baby and one for the mother. Both labels must include the patient’s full name (first and last), date of birth, date and time of draw, collectors initials, and medical record number (MR# not required, if not available for office/home collection).
Specimen stability: Testing in less that 24 hours is preferred. If unable to complete testing in this time the sample is stable for 3 days refrigerated at 2-8°C.
Minimum volume: 5mL
