Specimen Requirements

Serum

Collect blood in a gold-top, serum separator tube (SST). For pediatric specimen, draw blood in a red-top MICROTAINER®. (Grossly hemolyzed specimens are not acceptable.) Spin down and send 1 mL of serum refrigerated. Label specimen with patient’s name (first and last), date of birth, date and time of collection and the collector's initials.

 

Specimen stability:

48 hours refrigerated at 2-8°C

If unable to complete testing within 48 hours, remove serum from the SST tube and freeze at ≤ -20°C.

 

Minimum volume:  0.5 mL
