Specimen Requirements

Draw blood in a gold top (serum separater) gel tube(s) from a fasting patient. Spin down and send 1 ml of serum refrigerated. Freeze the sample if testing will not be completed within 24 hours from the time of collection. Label specimen with patient’s name (first and last), date of birth, date and time of draw, and phlebotomist’s initials.

Specimen stability:

8 hours at room temperature

24 hours refrigerated at 2-8°C

For longer storage freeze at ≤ -20°C

Do not use samples that have been stored at room temperature for more than 8 hours

Minimum volume:   0.5 mL
