Specimen Requirement

Serum

Draw blood in a gold-top (serum separater) gel tube. Allow blood to clot, spin down and send 1 mL serum refrigerated. Label specimen with patient’s name (first and last), date of birth, date and time of draw and phlebotomist’s initials.

Specimen stability:

2 days at room temperature

5 days at 2-8°C

For longer storage, keep frozen at ≥ -20°C

Minimum volume:

1 mL

Specimen rejection criteria:  Hemolyzed, lipemic, or contaminated samples should not be tested. Improperly collected, labeled or stored specimens are unacceptable.
