Specimen Requirements

 1. Collect at least 5 g of stool in a tightly sealed plastic container.  Do not contaminate with urine, toilet water or soil.

 2. Label container with patient’s name (first and last), date of birth, date and actual time of collection, collector’s initials, and type of specimen.

3. Forward to laboratory within 2 hours of collection.

Note:  Specimen source is required on request form for processing.

 Enzyme Immunoassay (EIA)

Note:  Effective June 2006, CRYPAG Giardia/Cryptosporidium Antigen,” replaces OVPA “Ova and Parasite Examinations,” except for patients presenting with the following risk factors:

1. Travel to a developing country or travel outside North America.

2. Residence or recent immigration from a developing country.

3. Immunosuppression.

4. Persistent, undiagnosed diarrhea.
