Specimen
Serum
Draw blood in gold-top (serum separater) gel tubes. Label the specimen with the patient’s name (first and last), date of birth, date and time of draw, phlebotomist’s initials and as serum. Allow the tubes to clot for a minimum of 30 minutes before centrifuging. Spin down and send 3 mL of serum refrigerated.
Three tubes preferred due to potential confirmation testing.
Specimen stability:
2 days at 2-8°C
≤ -20°C for longer storage
Minimum volume: 3 mL
Reference Values
Non-reactive (negative)
Reactive/equivocal results will be reported as "Presumptive positive, confirmation to follow" and the specimen will be sent to a reference lab for confirmatory testing.
