This assay does not differentiate between a vaccine-induced immune response and an immune response induced by infection with the Hepatitis B virus.

Useful For

Useful for determination of total antibodies to the Hepatitis B surface antigen in human adult, adolescent and pediatric serum. The results may be used as an aid in the determination of susceptibility to a Hepatitis B virus infection in individuals prior to or following vaccination or where vaccination status is unknown. 

Specimen

Draw blood in a gold-top, serum separator tube, labeled with the patient's first and last name, date of birth, date and time of collection and the collector's initials, if applicable. Allow specimen to clot for a minimum of 30 minutes before centrifuging.

 

Minimum volume:  1 mL, serum

 

Specimen stability:  7 days, refrigerated. For longer storage, freeze at ≤ 20°C

Non-reactive (negative)

 

Patients who have received the Hepatitis B vaccination may be reactive and will be resulted as such as this indicates a level of immunity to the virus.
