Specimen Requirements
Draw blood in a grey-top (potassium oxalate/sodium fluoride) tube without the use of a tourniquet. Label the specimen with the patient's name, date of birth, date and time of draw and the phlebotomist's initials. Place specimen on ice immediately after draw. Spin the tube and separate plasma from the cells within 30 minutes of draw. Send 1 mL of potassium oxalate/sodium fluoride plasma frozen in plastic vial.
Specimen stability:
Specimen should be spun and sepated with in 30 minutes of draw.
Separated samples may be refrigerated at 2-8°C for 8 hours.
Freeze at ≤ -20°C for longer storage.
Minimum volume:
500 mL
