Important Note

LIPID AND LIPIDT includes: cholesterol, triglyceride, HDL and LDL (calculated)

LIPIDT will reflex to DLDLT (measured LDL) if triglyceride is >400.

Specimen Requirements

Ideally, a LIPID panel would be drawn after a 12-14 hour or overnight fast.

 

Plasma (preferred)

Draw blood in a light green-top (lithium heparin) tube. Spin down and send refrigerated.  Label specimen with patient’s first and last name, date of birth, date and time of draw and the collector's initials.

 

Serum

Draw blood in a gold-top, serum separater tube. Allow the specimen to clot for at least 30 minutes. Spin down and send refrigerated.  Label specimen with patient’s first and last name, date of birth, date and time of draw and the collector's initials.

 

Please note the patient's fasting status at the time of the blood draw.

 

Specimen stability:

2 days when spun and refrigerated

 

Minimum volume:

1 mL
