Specimen

1. Plasma: draw blood in EDTA (lavender top) tube

2. Serum: plain red top or serum gel (gold top tube)

Spin down and remove plasma or serum from cells within 24 hours

Specimen stability:  24 hours refrigerated prior to freezing

                                6 weeks frozen

Note:  Label specimen with patient’s name (first and last), date of birth, date and time of draw, and phlebotomist’s initials.
