Meconium

Collect meconium specimen and submit in a screw capped container or stool container. Make sure to collect the entire random meconium specimen.

Specimen stability:

14 days at room temperature

28 days refrigerated at 2-8°C

28 days frozen at ≤ -20°C  (preferred)

Minimum volume:

0.3 g (approximately 1 teaspoon)

Specimen rejection criteria:

Grossly bloody specimens, pink is OK
