Specimen Requirements

1. Obtain specimen early in morning before a bowel movement or bath.

2. Collect specimen using a SWUBE^TM disposable paddle. (SWUBE^TM disposable paddle is available from the laboratory.)

3. Separate buttocks and press tacky surface against several areas of perianal region.

4. Return SWUBE^TM paddle to transport tube.

5. Label transport tube with patient’s name (first and last), date of birth, date and actual time of collection, collector’s initials, and type of specimen.

6. Forward promptly. If there is a delay in transport of ≥24 hours, send specimen refrigerated.
