Specimen Requirements

1. Obtain specimen early in morning before a bowel movement or bath.

2. Collect specimen using a SWUBETM disposable paddle. (SWUBETM disposable paddle is available from the laboratory.)

3. Separate buttocks and press tacky surface against several areas of perianal region.

4. Return SWUBETM paddle to transport tube.

5. Label transport tube with patient’s name (first and last), date of birth, date and actual time of collection, collector’s initials, and type of specimen.

6. Forward promptly. If there is a delay in transport of ≥24 hours, send specimen refrigerated.
