Methodology

Fluorescence Polarization Immunoassay (FPIA)

Procainamide is indicated in the treatment of premature ventricular contractions, ventricular tachycardia, atrial fibrillation, and paroxysmal atrial tachycardia. Procainamide is contraindicated in patients with complete atrio ventricular block.

Includes a separate determination of N-acetylprocainamide (NAPA).

Specimen Requirements

Draw blood in a plain, red-top tube(s) or a serum gel tube(s). Spin down and send 1 mL of serum refrigerated.

Note:  Label specimen with patient’s name (first and last), date of birth, date and time of draw, and phlebotomist’s initials.
