Specimen Requirements
Specimen must arrive within 1 hour of collection. Deliver specimen Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. only.
Patient Collection and Delivery Instructions
1. Patient should refrain from sexual intercourse or masturbation for 2 to 7 days prior to semen collection for accurate results.
2. Produce specimen by masturbation without artificial lubrication.
3. Collect specimen in a clean, wide-mouth, plastic or glass container. (Laboratory will provide a suitable container, if requested.)
4. It is important that entire ejaculate is collected. If not, specimen should be labeled “incomplete.”
Note: When collection by masturbation is not possible, special condoms (not ordinary latex condoms) may be used. These special condoms are NOT available from the laboratory.
5. Within 1 hour of collection, bring specimen to laboratory, keeping it warm (68-104° F) in a pocket close to your body.
6. Specimens may also be produced in a room near the laboratory.
Note: Label specimen with patient’s name (first and last), date of birth, and date and time of collection.
