Specimen Requirements

Collect 1mL of synovial fluid in a green-top (heparin) tube. Forward to the laboratory promptly. Synovial fluid should be examined for crystals with in a few hours after collection.

Note: 

1. Non-anticoagulated specimens are also acceptable.

2. Label specimen with patient’s name (first and last), date of birth, date and time of collection, and collector’s initials.
