Reference Values

Total protein:  6.4-8.2 g/dL

Albumin:  3.1-4.5 g/dL

Alpha-1-globulin:  0.1-0.4 g/dL

Alpha-2-globulin:  0.5-1.1 g/dL

Beta-globulin:  0.6-1.2 g/dL

Gamma-globulin:  0.5-1.5 g/dL

Methodology

Includes quantitation of protein, total; albumin; alpha-1-globulin; alpha-2-globulin; beta-globulin; and gamma-globulin.

Specimen Requirements

Draw blood in a serum gel tube(s). (Green-top [heparin] tube or hemolyzed specimen is not acceptable.) For pediatric specimen, draw blood in a red-top MICROTAINER(S)®. Spin down and send 1 mL of serum refrigerated.

Note:  1. If multiple myeloma is suspected, please indicate.

2. Label specimen with patient’s name (first and last), date of birth, date and time of draw, and phlebotomist’s initials.
