Specimen Requirements
Urine
Collect specimen in a clean, screw-capped urine container. Label the specimen with the patient's name (first and last), date of birth, date and time of actual collection and the collector's initials. Any type of urine collection is acceptable (e.g. Clean Catch, Random, etc.).
Specimen Stability
- 24 hours at room temperature
- 14 days if refrigerated at 2-8°C (Preferred)
Minimum Volume
0.25 mL
Specimen Rejection Criteria
Gross hemolysis, turbidity and dyed/unnaturally colored urines will not be accepted.
Reference Values
Negative
Note: A positive result is indicative of pneumococcal pneumonia.
