Specimen Requirements

15 mL from a 24-hour urine collection. No preservative. Mix well before taking 15-mL aliquot. (An entire 24-hour urine collection is also acceptable.) Refrigerate specimen during collection, and send specimen refrigerated in plastic urine container.

Note:  1. If multiple myeloma is suspected, please indicate.

2. 24-Hour volume is required on request form for processing.

3. See “Urine Collection” in “Special Instructions” for 24-hour specimens.

4. Label specimen with patient’s name (first and last), date of birth, date and time of collection, and collector’s initials.

84166 - protein; electrophoretic fractionation and quantitation

81050 - urine timed measurement (if appropriate)

Methodology

Includes quantitation of protein, total; albumin; alpha-1-globulin; alpha-2-globulin; beta-globulin; and gamma-globulin.

Reference Values

Total Protein   0-150 mg/24hr
