URIN- urinalysis with microscopic if indicated

URINM- urinalysis with microscopic included

URINEC- Culture, Urine will be reflexed if nitrite is positive, leukocyte esterase is positive, WBCs are ≥5 WBC/HPF and/or  >1+ bacteria or yeast present. A urine will not reflex to culture if the squamous epithelial count is >11 per HPF.

Day(s) Test Performed

Monday through Sunday

Testing

Includes appearance, bilirubin, glucose, ketones, leukocyte esterase, nitrite, occult blood, pH, specific gravity, total protein, urobilinogen, microscopic examination, if indicated, and culture, if indicated.

Specimen Requirements

Submit 10 mL of urine from a “clean-catch,” random urine collection in a screw-capped, sterile container. Refrigerate specimen within 2 hours of collection, and send specimen refrigerated. Maintain sterility and forward promptly.

Note:  Label specimen with patient’s name (first and last), date of birth, date and time of collection, and collector’s initials.

Specimen rejection criteria:  Urine samples that are intensely colored with blood or medications which may cause inaccurate chemistry results will have only a microscopic performed. The chemistry dip will be cancelled and a new test reordered by the laboratory.
