Important Note

Syringes may be labeled with Mom's name if the newborn is not registered yet.

Specimen

Arterial cord blood in a heparinized syringe, without the needle, that is free from bubbles or excess air. Syringe must be labeled as a "venous" specimen. Syringes may be sent to the lab on ice but it is not necessary if delivered in a timely fashion. Clotted specimens or specimens with excess air will be rejected. 

 

NOTE:  Syringes may be labeled with Mom's name if the newborn is not registered yet. In the case of twins, Baby A and Baby B must be differentiated. 

 

Minimum volume:  1mL

Specimen stability:  30 minutes at room temperature
