Test Code VCBGAS Cord Blood Gas Panel, Venous

Important Note

Syringes may be labeled with mom's name if the newborn is not registered yet.

Specimen

Venous cord blood in a heparinized syringe, without the needle, that is free from bubbles or excess air. Label the specimen with the patient’s name (first and last), date of birth, date and time of draw, phlebotomist’s initials, and as venous. Syringes may be sent to the lab on ice but it is not necessary if delivered in a timely fashion. 

Clotted specimens or specimens with excess air will be rejected. 

 

NOTE:  Syringes may be labeled with Mom's name if the newborn is not registered yet. In the case of twins, Baby A and Baby B must be differentiated on the syringes.

 

Specimen stability:

30 minutes at room temperature

 

Minimum volume:

1mL
