Specimen Requirements

Superficial site (blister, boil, burn, catheter insertion site, cyst, celluloid, decubitus ulcer, folliculitis, impetigo, incision, paronychia, rash or skin lesion) collected in a culture swab transport system.

Minimum Volume: One culture swab transport system

Specimen Stability: Samples should be forwarded to the lab as soon as possible. Within two hours is preferred.

 

 Label container with patient’s name (first and last), date of birth, date and actual time of collection, collector’s initials, and type of specimen.

Includes direct Gram stain.
